Traditional scenery and history of machiya, it means town house you will find “KAMISHICHIKEN HITOYADO.” It has originality and specialty space. The accommodation which is not hotel and calling “KAMISHICHIKEN HITOYADO.” You can feel an extension of the nostalgic beauty of Kyoto in here. Each space has been crafted by unique and highly skilled artisans, who seamlessly connect Kyoto’s past and present to create a new aesthetic. In the style of a Japanese tea-ceremony house designed by Mr. Yasumichi Morita in collaboration with artists such as Mr. Naoki Kuzumi, Mr. Takahiro Kondo, and Mr. Yui Higashibata, the accommodation evokes an understated elegance characteristic of Kyoto. This unique design philosophy is reflected throughout “KAMISHICHIKEN HITOYADO”. The walls created by Kuzumi, for example, were built with soil that used to be part of the famous Higashi Honganji Temple. Kondo’s “Ginteki” technique and Higashibata’s ornamental woodwork also reflect Kyoto’s refined elegance. We hope that our accommodation will provide a serene and relaxing place for you to enjoy.

Born in Kyoto in 1974.
His parent who was also woodworker was taking care of him. He learned the basics of lacquer from Mr. Masaya Suzuki who is the Urushi artist after he graduated from high school.
Then, he learned the design in the design office to get the knowledge of space design.
He is working modern and fresh art based on the traditional technique of Urushi.
He continues to be successful widely and search for new possibility of Urushi.

Mr. Takahiro Kondo/ Gintekisai
Earth changed the water planet from the fireball.
“Ginteki” resulted from the image of the expression of water.
Water circulating around gas, liquid and solid is assuming as the transmission between heaven and the earth.
Water is considering as life.
Born in Kyoto in 1958, ceramic artist, Artist.
His grandfather is Mr. Yuzo Kondo who is the living notional treasure; His father is Mr. Tozyun Kondo who is the printing ceramic artist.
He got a Kyoto City art rookie award in 1994.
Then he got lnglis Allen Masters award in 2003.
He is working plane and plastic productions by soil, glass and metal. His most important work is “Jikutsubo” and “Ginnteki”.
He is holding exhibitions in the world.
In addition, he continues the earth work like Noyaki at Tenkawa Shrine in Nara.
After 11th of march 2011, he is planning art project “HOTARU Inochi no Utsuwa.
Public collections are Metropolitan museum, Boston museum and so on.
Mr. Naoki Kuzumi / The walls
This is the exterior wall and the interior wall existing from the in Kyoto.
We do not have many opportunities to it because he wanted us to touch the expression of real soil.
Plaster craftsmen are painting carefully from the base. The process of construction is very beautiful every steps.
The wall influenced by nature will reach our hearts.
Making is not finished but they are watching carefully over the years. That’s why the beauty of that time still remains.
He wants the next generation people to feel this beauty. He worked it making a wish.
Born in Hyogo in 1972. Plasterer craftsmen.
His father is Mr. Akira Kuzumi who is very famous plasterer craftsmen. He uses a mortarboard from his childhood.
When he was 18 years old, he lived apart from his parent. He established his company “Sakan Co., Ltd” after training in all over Japan. He is managing the walls of commercial facilities, cultural facilities, educational facilities and houses and artworks. In addition, he is involving in the job of restoration of historic buildings required high technique like a tea-ceremony room and cultural properties. This job of restoration has many offers from not only Japan but also overseas; Germany, France and so on.
He is admired his high technique and original ideas making from the first design. Then he is completely trusted by architects.
Moreover, he is unfolding workshops and lectures extremely actively.
The main productions are “INAX Tsuchi Doronko kan”, “JR Kanazawa station”, and “The museum of Mr. Mitsumasa Anno”.
Mr. Yasumichi Morita/ Interior designer
“KAMISHICHIKEN” where originated in building the seven original teahouses from leftover equipment and materials when Kitano Tenmangu Shrine was being rebuilt in the Muromachi period is the attractive area.
In Kamishichiken, he wants to create a special accommodation which makes us stimulate our senses. That is why he created HITOYADO. He is hoping everyone will meet an excellent experience and a new attraction of Kyoto when you stay there.
Born in Osaka in 1967.
After Hong Kong project in 2001, he expanded his activities to overseas; New York, London, Qatar and Paris. Regardless of interior, he has a wide range of creative activities. Since he completed ladies’ wear and the women goods floor in 2013, he completed living and baby kids’ floor as Isetan Shinjyuku redevelopment project in 2015. He was released GLAMOROUS PHILOSOPHY NO.1 by publishing PALCO in 2013. Moreover, he is active as a photographer. His exhibition was held in Paris in November 2016 as the same style as 2015.
Awards received are SEGD Global Design Award, A' Design Award and Competition, Design For Asia Awards, The International Hotel and Property Awards, INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY AWARDS, THE LONDON LIFESTYLE AWARDS, The Andrew Martin Interior Designers of the Year Awards and so on.
